Lava Lamp
Pink Haze
I love my lava lamp.
She’s cute and pink, and she gives me that pink haze at night. Yeah, she’s pink. Very much so.
I bought her yesterday at Johnny’s Convenience, and she’s been making me happy ever since.
The way she gazes at me, with those hungry eyes. Her shape, phallic and sexual. She’s perfect.
And then when she’s hot, she illuminates the room with a fluorescent glow, with multitudes of colours, roundnesses, oblongs, and shapes coming into each other, and through each other, and of each other.
I can look at her, and she calms me down.
With her, I finally fall asleep.
***
She’s been sending me some sounds. I can hear a hum, a soft, rhythmic thrum, as if she talks to me.
It’s my third day with my lava lamp. And it’s such a beautiful day.
I didn’t even go to work; I had to pop her on, and now I just sit and stare.
I know, I know. In the instructions, it says you’re only meant to have her on for 8 hours a day.
But 8 hours is never enough. I can never get enough of her in that time. Such a cruel world.
Each hour feels like a fleeting moment. The thought of turning her off gives me anxiety.
I know I risk her overheating, maybe even causing a short circuit, but I can’t dismiss her pull.
The entire world is nothing without her.
I don’t think I need anything or anybody else, just my lava lamp.
***
I know I shouldn’t have, but it’s the fourth day at home, and I’ve already had her on for 12 hours today.
I know it’s wrong, she might die, or overheat. I take the risk nonetheless. You have to be bold.
There’s always the threat that my boss will catch on to my absences. Missing more days could mean losing out on projects, or worse, getting passed over for a promotion.
Still, I find it impossible to resist her.
I simply can’t live without her.
She hums to me, louder every day, our affection growing.
We’re both glowing stronger. With love.
***
Another day, another bullshit excuse to my boss just to stay at home.
I imagine hearing his voice in my head, “You okay? You’ve been absent a lot lately.”
I’m gonna have to think up some options here. This can’t go on forever. I need a job and a source of income in the long run.
But my lava lamp beckons, and I shove the thought away, telling myself I’ll figure this out later. Its glow soothes the growing chaos within. I’m calm again.
She gives me strength, she comforts me. I don’t want any other life but with her, all the time.
I barely go out for food, and I can’t stand it anymore. My phone is just showing missed calls and unread notifications.
She’s been on for 14 hours today, with my dog-like eyes looking at her.
***
That makes it a full week with my waxy beauty. She’s dancing in the luminous lights every day, calming me down and making me feel at home.
The voicemail screams at me with my boss’s messages. I don’t give a flying fuck about it.
She’s trying to talk more, showing me things inside of her, inviting me into herself.
I’m a shy person, afraid to take the first step.
I look at her now, eye to eye, up close. Hormones are buzzing, and affection fills the air.
I’m afraid to take the first step, but her hot body is so warm, so eager.
But I’m done waiting. I can’t let it falter and fall apart, everything we’ve built together. I know she wants it, and I know I want it.
What is anyone else to say about the feelings between the two of us? They’ll never understand us. They never understand lovers.
***
I come closer.
Our bodies touch, skin to skin.
I feel the heat burning through my chin; it hurts, and it burns. Yet, it’s overpowering and turns me on at the same time. I want more.
Our skins melt together, into one, and I see wax worlds full of oval, disc shapes, infinite possibilities. Infinite, tempting realities, each with a distinctive scent of wax.
I can have all of that now. I can escape from my miserable life. She offers me the escape hatch, inviting me into the fantastical visions she displays.
We’re becoming whole; we are entering a union.
My head floats through the luminous mineral oil, and first I choke, but then I learn how to breathe it. It becomes me, I become it.
My entire body starts to tingle. As heat emanates from the lamp itself, now it emanates from my body as well. My limbs start glowing as they enter the alternative plane of existence.
At the last moment, I hesitate, feeling a sudden, instinctive apprehension grip me.
Is crossing this boundary wise? My mind races with uncertainty, yet the pull from her glow feels irresistible.
In the last moment, I choose between two worlds, and I pick the softer one and let the rest burn away.
I am within her, and of her. We are one.
